ISIC Activity Code to UNSPSC Code Mapping

GET /api/v1/reference/isic-unspsc — reference crosswalk used by the classification engine

Registered legal activity (ISIC Rev.4, and its national derivatives DED, SSIC, NIC) describes what a supplier is licensed to do. UNSPSC describes what is actually bought. This crosswalk maps each ISIC section/division onto the UNSPSC 2-digit segment range it typically produces, giving the classification engine a prior for auto-coding and a baseline for the activity code reconciliation checks.

How the Crosswalk Is Applied

classification.mapping.isic_unspsc.v1

  • Prior for auto-classification — the supplier's registered ISIC code seeds the candidate UNSPSC segment range before the text/ML classifier scores line items.
  • Reconciliation signal — invoiced UNSPSC segments outside the mapped range raise an activity code mismatch flag for review.
  • 1:N by design — one ISIC section can legitimately map to several UNSPSC segments; the mapping narrows, it never uniquely determines the category.
  • Goods vs services split — UNSPSC segments 10–61 cover products, 70–94 cover services, which drives the correct tax, ESG factor and contract template.
